Yeah! Sharp huzet?

I am proper brah, what’s happening? What’s happening?

All’s good brah!

I see you!

Word-word! Skhabatin!

Skaftin!

Can I call you Skhabatin?

He pulls his hat up and shows me the scar on his forehead and says “Scarftin!”

Ooh! Oh! Oh! It all makes sense now! I thought it was just lunchbox!

Nah brah! It can be anything!

Alright!

Nobody knows what it means!

LOL…Including you?

Yeah man! It is provocative! It keeps people going!

LOL…Oh flip! Crazy! So tell us about Gags and Music!

Gags and Music is a show that happens every last Wednesday of the month at Cuban Linx. We have local comedians and those from South Africa. The show is about noticing fresh talent.

I came up with the idea and then I incorporated Sehlabaka Rampeta, a photographer. We made a team. It’s me the comedian. Nkopane the photographer. Pesh the photographer. Nkoanyane Pitso the graphic designer, he is the one who does the posters and he is also a DJ.

Gags and Music is an incorporation of chilled out music and comedy. It is where we say people are busy. End of the weekend, people want to go out and have fun. Party and turn up!

So that’s why we say on a Wednesday, come through, relax and chill. We realized that there is no similar platform where people can go and laugh their lungs out.

It came to our realization that people are busy, people are depressed, people are going through a lot of things and not all of us can afford therapy. Hence we thought, why not offer therapy at the cheapest price?

What we are doing is, we talk about relevant things like politics, relationships, kids and parents. We have something for everybody. We talk about everything. Things that people can relate to and say, ‘I am going through that, I know somebody who was going through that, I might go through that too.’ You understand?

I feel you!

Essentially, we are trying to alleviate the tension that people are going through by having fun. Have your drinks, enjoy your music and laugh!

It’s a beautiful combination!

All for 30 bucks!

30?

30 is before the end of the month when we have local talent. We charge 50 month end so that we can pay the guys from South Africa.

What we always urge people to do is to come through if they have been told that they are funny. Come showcase your stuff. I cannot say that I discovered Kibiti/Leotoana. I made him aware that he was a comedian. I encouraged him to try out and he turned out more than okay!

Even DJs that play Ambient, Lofi, New-Jazz, New-Soul, Old School RnB and any chilled kind of music are welcome.

Alright!

One other thing is that we have sponsors, Donny’s Dried Fruit, Ready Rides sponsors us with transport, Leseli Hub and a few others you see on our event posters, take note of them.

Okay!

We started off in March this year. We have a Facebook page with 1 400 followers.

That’s an achievement!

We have an Instagram handle with 1 200 followers.

We told people that we are going to do comedy differently by documenting it. If you can’t make it to the show. You can always go to our page and watch high quality videos of the previous show.

That’s innovative!

We also have street prank interviews.

Hahaha! I wanna see those!

We go to market places like this one (We were at the Roma Community Market) and interview people, visit our page to see them.

We also have those old school written jokes like memes.

Oh yeah?

We are building a conducive ecosystem. A self sustaining ecosystem where you do not have to go outside the country to say you have made it.

Yeah!

You do not have to be seen on SABC something, HBO, Netflix. We are creating something of our own so that when outsiders come into the country and ask we have. We can proudly and boldly say we have Gags and Music Wednesdays.

And it’s beautiful! Trust me! I highly appreciate it because I have always felt like there was a need for an art hub and you headed towards that direction!

We have an initiative to go to high schools and inspire form Ds and Es to invest into Creative Arts.

Final thoughts?

You do not have to be anything, you have to be a doer of your actions! You have to be a person who does things! I do stand up comedy, I am not a comedian!

I feel you!

If you say you are something, the label restricts you.

And we do not want that!

Be a limitless doer of your actions. A verb and not a noun.

We struggled a bit to get to the above conclusion and he was like…

My English bundles are depleting!
