TechCon Lesotho 2019 A Huge Success

On the 25th and 26th September 2019, BasaliTech partnered with Technify and Selibeng to bring you the first annual TechCon Lesotho, which is a technology conference that aims to educate Basotho about Technology, Digital Literacy as well as other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related knowledge.

The event welcomed over 250+ participants over the two days which was a mix of industry professionals and students.

The main theme was “The 4th Industrial Revolution, Developing skills for the future”. The 4th Industrial revolution, also known as the Digital Revolution is “the current and developing environment in which disruptive technologies and trends such as the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) are changing the way we live and work”.

Soon, some jobs will be replaced by advanced technology, robotics and new jobs will rise and need to be occupied. There were presentations by experts on these technologies to simplify what they are, their impact and so much more.

The event hosted panel discussions on the future of work, where corporates discussed the future of work and the skill demand and gaps they have and foresee in organizations. This was then followed by an academic panel discussion where the panelists discussed how their current curriculum is meeting these corporate needs and how it can better be improved to meet the needs better.

The event also had a tech expo running along the main event program where tech start-ups were showcasing their products as well as an activity corner where the audience was interacting with technology gadgets such as drones, virtual reality, smart balance.

At this event, BasaliTech also launched the Start-up World Cup which is a global competition for start-ups around the world and BasaliTech has partnered with Pegasus Tech Ventures, a company in Silicon Valley, USA so that Basotho can compete in this competition for the very first time in May 2020 and compete for the $1,000,000 grand prize.
