Youth Driving the Future: Intergen Collaboration for the SDGs

UNDP, drawing on its extensive experience in promoting youth participation in policy, economic, and social spheres worldwide, will host a public event on 16 December. This event is held at the time of the visit by its Administrator to mark the 70th anniversary of ODA in Japan and will showcase youth-led initiatives serving as role models and present a vision and roadmap for realizing the theme of the ODA’s 70th anniversary, “co-creation.”

Amid the global challenges of “uncertainty” and “critical challenges,” UNDP views the next generation as “agents of change” and has placed them at the center of its development programs. In Japan, where awareness and interest in the SDGs are particularly high among the younger generation, UNDP has been leveraging this as a valuable asset to encourage concrete “action.” For example, in collaboration with the Citi Foundation, UNDP runs “Youth Co:Lab,” an initiative supporting youth-led social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Additionally, UNDP, in collaboration with youth groups from Africa and Japan in their 20s and 30s, is spearheading an initiative to incorporate youth-driven policy proposals developed by young people through Future Design―a first in TICAD’s history. As part of the proposal, which places significant emphasis on “youth entrepreneurship,” the initiative “Meet the Tôshikas” has been launched in collaboration with the Government of Japan to support young African entrepreneurs and startups tackling social challenges.

In the Main Session of this event, good practices such as “Youth Co:Lab” and “Meet the Tôshikas” and lessons learned will be shared by leading youth figures to guide future actions undertaken by the next generations.

Through this event, we reaffirm the importance of youth involvement and create the future together with all generations. We look forward to your participation.
