POST TITLE: WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGER

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT : MAINTENANCE

REPORTS TO : BURSAR

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Bursar, Works and Infrastructure Manager will head the Maintenance Department and ensure the Polytechnic facilities are well-cared and adequate for support of the polytechnic’s business operations. The incumbent will manage maintenance activities for the installation, repair and upkeep of buildings, landscapes, and offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key duties of the post are as follows :-

  • Undertakes analysis for fixed assets and property on a regular basis and oversees the proper maintenance.
  • Evaluates existing infrastructure to determine if it needs to be repaired, replaced, or expanded to accommodate future needs
  • Conducts inspections of facilities and structures to ensure they meet safety standards
  • Provides technical advice to the maintenance and project teams;
  • Develops and implements short- and long-term maintenance plans and strategies;
  • Provides guidance on policies, processes and procedures related to equipment and inventory, as well and health and safety.
  • Ensures the accurate compilation of asset under construction project.
  • Investigates conditions of potential damaged fixed assets;
  • Investigates the potential obsolescence of fixed assets
  • Implements and monitors the annual useful life review process.
  • Monitors equipment inventory and place orders when necessary
  • Monitors expenses and control the budget for maintenance
  • Manages relationships with contractors and service providers
  • Responds to staff generated work requests; prioritize, schedule, and assign work to staff, manage work order data
  • Supervises the preparation of specifications and secure bids for upgrades, renovations demolition and refurbishment
  • Prepares cost estimates for upgrades, renovations, demolitions and refurbishment before presentation of budget.
  • In liaison with Bursary department ensures that the fixed asset register is maintained that all information relating to fixed assets is recorded accordingly. Information includes but is not limited to:
  • data relating to the stewardship and control of fixed assets;
  • expenditures related to fixed assets;
  • depreciation charges;
  • damage charges.

JOB SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Masters degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or any other related discipline.

The candidate should have at least two (2) years managerial experience in a similar field.

  • Property Management, Asset Management, Real Estate, Facilities Management will be an added advantage.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or any other related discipline.

The candidate should have at least five (5) years managerial experience in a similar field.

THE POSITION IS ON A FOUR (4) YEAR FIXED – TERM CONTRACT RENEWABLE BASED ON PERFOMANCE.
