Job Summary
The Communication Director will be part of the management team, overseeing all internal and external communications. This includes managing the communication team, overseeing all communication channels and outputs, and providing strategic support to WINGS leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies and plans for all areas of work, events, and projects.
  • Oversee strategic communication for WINGS, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Develop and regularly update key messages for WINGS and all programmatic areas.
  • Write, edit, and proofread external communications, including articles, reports, publications, and newsletters.
  • Manage the functionality, development, and content of WINGS websites, working with service providers.
  • Build and manage media relationships and outreach efforts.
  • Perform management duties, including strategic planning, budgeting, and policy contributions.
  • Engage in outreach, coordination, and liaison with members and partners.
  • Act as the communication lead for specific areas of work.
  • Oversee all communication for WINGS events, including WINGSForum.
  • Manage the production of the WINGS Monthly Newsletter and blog content.
  • Supervise content creation, publication dissemination plans, and outreach strategies.
  • Lead and manage the communication team and external service providers.
  • Approve contracts related to outsourcing services, subgrants, and partnerships.
  • Draft terms of reference (TORs) and scopes of work for consultants and service providers.

Requirements
This is a contractor position for 40 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong expertise in strategic communication, messaging, audience engagement, and digital outreach.
  • Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, impactful messaging.
  • Experience managing communication teams and delivering high-impact communication for international philanthropy or civil society organisations.
  • At least 8 years of directly relevant professional experience.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field or 10+ years of equivalent experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Exceptional English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in content writing and editing for diverse communication formats.
  • Proficiency in managing social media channels and digital platforms.
  • Website management experience, including SEO and analytics.
  • Experience with mailing lists and related software.
  • Understanding of graphic design and video production.
  • Attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with philanthropy, civil society, and global issues.
  • Experience working remotely in a diverse, geographically dispersed team.
  • Global mindset and cultural awareness.
  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency in online communication tools.

Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from USD 80,000 to 100,000 per year, based on factors including geographic location.
