WINDER OPERATOR – KLB (Scale B)
Sappi Ngodwana Mill requires a Winder Operator to safely and efficiently operate the winder by assisting the winderman in all winder operations and to ensure optimum production output and quality at the best cost with minimum downtime, rejections and waste.
This role reports into the Shift Superintendent
The main responsibilities of this job are:
- Assist the winderman in preparing the section for start-up and shut down
- Assist in operating the Overhead crane to load reels onto the unwind stand
- Assist in setting up slitter knives, check for blunt or damaged slitter knives and check drive drums and motors
- Assist in feeding the paper through the winder
- Remove all side runs via OTIS lift to the basement
- Assists by monitoring the quality and sheet appearances of paper being rewound and report any abnormalities to the winderman
- Ensure sufficient amounts of cores are available at the winder during the shift
- Eject the empty spool at the backstand and load new Jumbo into the backstand
- Push paper webs onto conveyor system in front of the winder
- Apply barcode for identification purposes and core plugs for despatching.
- Ensure that each web has the loose end glued
- Check if correct setup is displayed on PTS
- Assists in unplanned/planned maintenance shut tasks as per instruction from the shift superintendent.
- Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards
- Maintain a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times
The ideal candidate should have:
- Grade 12 ( Maths and Science) or N3 Pulp and Paper
- 0-6 Months Production Experience
