The LLWSS is a bulk water supply designed for the lowlands of Lesotho.
JOB TITLE: Water Resources Coordinator
GRADE: Special Grade

JOB SUMMARY
Water Resources Coordinator with an in-depth knowledge of Lesotho water resources and modus operandi, processes and management of departments responsible for the management and development thereof will be required to facilitate and guide consultants/contractors to the correct persons and stakeholders and to work as a liaison between both to ensure that a reasonable and sustainable solution is developed and acceptable to all parties regarding water resources development.
1. Key Responsibilities
The Specialist shall be responsible for the design or implementation of programs and strategies related to water resource issues such as supply, quality, and regulatory compliance issues. This includes but is not limited to:
- Conduct, or oversee the conduct of, investigations on matters such as water storage, wastewater discharge, pollutants, permits, or other compliance and regulatory issues
- Develop plans to protect watershed health or rehabilitate watersheds
- Develop environmental remediation or protection plans
- Develop strategies for watershed operations to meet water supply and conservation goals or to ensure regulatory compliance with clean water laws or regulations
- Identify and characterize specific causes or sources of water pollution
- Prepare proposals, project reports, informational brochures, or other documents on wastewater, water supply and demand, or other water resource subjects and present to stakeholders
- Review or evaluate designs for water detention facilities, storm drains, flood control facilities, or other hydraulic structures
- Conduct, or oversee the conduct of, chemical, physical, and biological water quality monitoring or sampling to ensure compliance with water quality standards
- Monitor water use, demand, or quality in a scheme area
- Compile water resource data, using geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS), or any other software used for this data storage and analysis
- Negotiate for water rights with communities or water facilities to meet water supply demands
2. Knowledge and Skills / Competencies
- The Specialist must have an in-depth knowledge of water resources management and development
- Experience in and knowledge of transboundary water management is also a requirement
- The Specialist will be required to facilitate and guide consultants/contractors to the correct persons and stakeholders and to work as a liaison between both to ensure that a reasonable and sustainable solution is developed and acceptable to all parties regarding water resources development
Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, or any Engineering with a water resources management component, with a minimum of 10 to 15 years’ experience in the relevant field
