Water and Sewage Plant Operator

Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified, self-driven, results oriented and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant position of Water and Sewage Plant Operator.
Job purpose
Responsible for safe and secure process sampling, sample analysis and results capturing in accordance with the Lesotho Water and Sanitation Regulations. The function of the Water and Sewage Plant Operator is to ensure productivity and efficiency of the Water and Sewage Plant.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Site Services Supervisor, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities.
- Carries out, and coordinates as appropriate, the safe and secure collection of representative samples from the various streams in accordance with the Lesotho Laws and Regulations;
- Carries-out daily inspections and record findings or defects;
- Report all defects to the Maintenance Planner;
- Report all abnormal water level results that exceed the legal requirement immediately to the Engineering Planner;
- Liaises with the SHE Department staff regarding the collection of samples as per requirements;
- Captures sample results accurately and timeously on the specified systems;
- Inspect equipment on a regular basis;
- Monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges;
- Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areas;
- Ensure compliance and adherence to SHE policies, practices, safety standards and complete necessary risk assessments.
Legal and other requirements
- Police clearance and medical examinations of fitness as per the inherent requirements of the position
- Valid driver’s license – Must be at least 2 years of age.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma in water and Environmental Engineering
- 2 – 3 Years’ experience as a Water and Sewage Plant operator.
- Knowledge of water and sewage treatment plant processes.
- Knowledge of plant layout and operating procedures
- Knowledge of chemical relationships within the ambit of water purification and effluent treatment
- Knowledge of Environmental Regulations
