About the position

The Internet Society is seeking an Vice President, People & Culture (VPPC). The VPPC will be a strategic thoughtful leader who directs all aspects of the company’s people initiatives and programs while supporting and aligning the people function with the overall business strategy.  This position will be responsible for the global human resources function for the Internet Society and, under a shared services agreement, its supporting organization, the Internet Society Foundation

Reporting to the CEO, the VPPC will partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership to ensure culture is a strong component of the Internet Society’s overall strategy. This includes the coordination and implementation of processes, policies and programs regarding organizational development, talent development, staff engagement, succession planning, retention, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, and internal communications for a global workforce.

As part of this role, the VPPC will be expected to provide creative and insightful solutions to critical HR issues and advise executives accordingly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The VPPC will  lead the Human Resources team’s efforts to drive business strategy, organization capability, performance, and sustainable long-term growth in all areas of the organizations’ people functions to include:

Culture & Values – Partner with Executives to enhance a positive, engaged culture. Refine ways to identify and reinforce the behaviors that exemplify company values. Strive to advance people and implement organizational strategies to shape an inviting and cohesive employee environment.

Talent Management – Develop and implement long-range strategic plans to build human capital through performance management, coaching, training and development; thus motivating individuals to achieve their maximum potential. Successfully identify and address gaps in competency, knowledge, and skillsets.

Talent Acquisition – Lead and support a comprehensive talent acquisition process to attract, develop, retain, and engage a high-quality global workforce. Responsible for sourcing, attracting, interviewing, hiring and onboarding employees, all while factoring in the long-term goals of an organization.

Performance Management – Establish organizational performance management programs that align with the values and mission of the company. Coach management to set clear, meaningful goals and objectives and use metrics to measure performance. Identify key performance indicators for people and talent management functions, and assess workforce health based on these metrics.

HR Systems & Compliance – Ensure that state-of-the-art HR technology is in place to meet current and future prospective business objectives. Ensure compliance and maintain knowledge of global regulations and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management. Manage internal communications for all HR-related activity.  Shape, maintain, and create necessary policies and procedures to support all people functions across the organizations. Ensure policies are up to date while keeping up with best practices for a global workforce.

Desired Qualifications

  • This position requires a human resources executive with significant and demonstrated experience. Ideally, the VPPC’s experience will include 10 or more years in an international, national or publicly-held organization.
  • Human Resources Certification (GPHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, and/or PHR)  certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one international context.
  • Familiarity with requirements for US-incorporated employers is also required.
  • Ability to understand the complexity of the organization’s business on a global scale, embracing cultural and individual differences and working with the nuances of specific local cultures to make informed impactful decisions. More than 50% of our employees are outside the U.S.
  • Ability to  evaluate and implement global HR related programs and initiatives both strategically and tactically.
  • Be able to work with a variety of organizational leaders to build consensus around HR strategy and tactics.
  • Demonstrated background in talent management and leadership management; as well as have a proven ability to attract and retain outstanding talent and assemble and motivate high performance teams.
  • Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills as well as proven organizational skills are required.
  • Must have the ability to bring immediate credibility to the human resources function through professional qualifications and leadership skills as well as project the highest levels of integrity.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Compensation and benefits for this position will be paid in local currency and based on the country and geographic location’s local salary and benefits market data for the position. Exact pay will be based on factors including but not limited to relevant qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, business and organizational needs.
