About the programme:
The DSIDE programme is an intensive programme that places students into multi-disciplinary teams working on real world problems from ICT-related fields. This includes opportunities to conduct entrepreneurial activities around data-driven products.
Mentors from the CSIR data science practitioner community will provide guidance and support on all projects. The goal of the DSIDE programme is to give students an opportunity to solve a real problem in a real context and to give partners an opportunity to tap the skills and ingenuity of a student team. Some problems have been solved under the visual analytic framework with the goal of letting the data tell the story of “What happened”, “Where”, “How”, “When” and the “Value” of the insight. Teams will comprise of technical expertise, entrepreneurial expertise and public policy expertise for a truly interdisciplinary approach. Problems will come from domains such as education, social media, transportation, logistics, energy, smart urban development, government policy making, etc.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Currently enrolled third year, fourth year, honours, masters and doctoral students studying towards engineering, science, commerce or arts with majors in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, economics, entrepreneurship, public policy, graphic design and journalism with good academic standing;
- Ability to identify patterns, solve problems, have an analytic mind and hardworking;
- Strong software development skills;
- All applications must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Copy of CV (MAXIMUM OF 2 PAGES) focussed on why you have an interest in learning data science with any supporting evidence (eg. university courses, external courses, practical projects etc.); past experience gained through group project work at a tertiary institution or company; and academic work related to the position (eg. tools you have used or developed; academic papers/articles/journals; etc.)
- Certified copies of tertiary qualifications.
- Certified copy of the latest academic record.
- Certified copy of Identity Document.
