Advancing Disability Inclusion in Humanitarian Food Security: A Regional Workshop

When? October 13-16, 2026 (3.5 days)

Where? Nairobi, Kenya (Venue TBD)

Language? English (Sign language upon request)

Who is invited? Regional humanitarian staff working in Food Security with technical and programming roles from International Organizations, NGOs, Cluster/Sector Coordination Teams, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities with humanitarian operations in Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and/or Ethiopia. We encourage sending two participants per organisation.

Objective

The participants will have a chance to:

  • Deepen understanding of disability-inclusive Food Security in humanitarian action in line with the IASC Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action;
  • Increase awareness of disability inclusion and strengthen capacity to integrate disability inclusion into Food Security responses;
  • Take away concrete examples, tools and practical applications for disability-inclusive Food Security programming;
  • Learn about each other’s good practices, entry points for change, and lessons learnt;
  • Adapt their own organizations’ tools and guidance to become more disability inclusive.

Methodology

The training will promote inter-agency exchange and synergies. Mutual learnings and promising practices on disability-inclusive Food Security will be at the heart of the training. HI will facilitate the training with an engaging and interactive approach offering a mix of presentations, learning sessions, guest speakers, group work, discussions and a “laboratory” tool adaptation session to adapt current practices.

To adapt the content to your interests, we would appreciate if you would fill out this Disability-Inclusive Food Security Training Registration Form. If you want to make use of the laboratory session to adapt your policies, tools and/or guidance to disability-inclusive Food Security recommendations, we ask you to share some of your tools in advance or contact us with any questions regarding this session.
