Job Purpose
The role primarily focuses on evaluating applicants for insurance. The incumbent is required to make sure that all underwriting within authority levels takes place in accordance with the agreed standards, service levels and procedures. They use data and underwriting manuals to help analyze the risk profile of clients and to calculate costs. They determine whether or not the company should decline or accept a risk.

Areas of Responsibility
Process all underwriting transactions within the set standards, procedures and turnaround times
Identify and address the need of internal and/or external clients appropriately and speedily.
Underwrite all applications within authorized levels.
Handle policy renewals including cancellations of policies within agreed timelines.
Within mandates, quote prescribed rates for new and renewal businesses.
Issue policies and all other documents as evidence of insurance cover.
Issue renewal notices to clients prior to the renewal date.
Assess and analyze potential risk factors in order to accurately underwrite risks and agree rates (as prescribed) which are acceptable to the customer, equitable to the risk and protect the Company.
Build relationship with customer to enhance the business
Be able to provide advice and explain rationale behind underwriting decisions.
Justify and document (within agreed mandates) all decisions and requirements that are not according to LNIG Hollard Insure’ standard practices.
Identifies and addresses the needs of internal and/or external clients appropriately and speedily
Support agents in selling company products to clients.
Capturing of allocated applications to conform to LNIG Hollard Insure’ Standards.
Respond to enquiries from brokers, agents and clients and ensure total client satisfaction.
Assist with any audits being conducted within the department.
Comply with all departmental procedures and timelines.
Provide required reports accurately and on time
Ensures proper filling of relevant documents accordingly
Ensure receipting of Live policies in the system
Ensure schedules and relevant documents are uploaded into Pure when renewing a policy or working on a new business

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
University Degree
Diploma
Relevant insurance training, added advantage
Understands and can confidently explain the principles of risk selection.
Possesses the appropriate level of technical, legal, personal and basic business financial knowledge in relation to his/her underwriting authority level.
Understands and can apply underwriting standards and practices confidently.
Problem solving skills

Written and verbal communication skills – needed for communicating with a range of people, both internally and externally, as well as presentation skills
