1. Background
In recognition of the increasing need for trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches in public service delivery, Sesotho Media and Development (SM&D) seeks to engage a qualified individual to design and facilitate three separate trainings on trauma-sensitive service provision for teachers, police officers, and health workers across Lesotho.
These sectors are pivotal first responders and front-liners in dealing with trauma-affected individuals. However, a lack of capacity in trauma sensitivity often leads to unintentional harm or re-traumatization of service users. These trainings aim to bridge this gap and foster a human right-centered, culturally appropriate, and psychosocially informed approach.
2. Objectives of the Training
- To build understanding of trauma and its impacts on individuals, especially children, survivors of violence, and vulnerable groups.
- To strengthen the capacity of teachers, police, and health workers to provide trauma-sensitive, non-judgmental, and supportive services.
- To equip participants with practical tools and communication techniques for responding to trauma in their specific professional context.
- To promote ethical, human-rights-based, and gender-sensitive approaches.
- To integrate culturally relevant methods including those aligned with Sesotho Media and Development’s storytelling, film, and community engagement models.
3. Scope of Work
The consultant will be expected to:
- Conduct a brief needs assessment to tailor the training content to each professional group.
- Develop and submit three tailored training modules (one each for teachers, police, and health workers).
