RECRUITMENT – LETŠENG DIAMONDS

Letšeng seeks to engage a qualified professional with the appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of TRAINEE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER-PATERSON BAND CL (2 x vacancies)

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Geotechnical Manager, the Trainee Geotechnical Engineer will assist the Geotechnical Engineer, to maintain data collection and geotechnical monitoring strategies for Letšeng’s Diamond Mining Operations; to undertake rockmass characterization and geotechnical modelling, and to assist with slope stability analyses; to maintain safe work procedures in order to minimize risk of slope collapse, rockfalls and any other geotechnical threat to mining personnel and equipment.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertake Geotechnical In-pit mapping; geotechnical characterisation (Kinematics, RMR), structural (Large & small-scale) data collection
  • Undertake Geotechnical Core logging of all drill holes available derive rockmass characteristics (Index Strengths, RMR)
  • Undertake Geotechnical In-pit mapping; geotechnical characterization (Kinematics, RMR), structural (Large & small-scale) data collection
  • Assist the geotechnical engineer with daily pit inspections at least twice a day, inspecting working areas highwalls, safety berms, haul roads, etc.
  • Assist with Pit Slopes and Waste Dump Facilities monitoring using various Monitoring Systems on site in conjunction with Survey information
  • Undertake Index Geotechnical Testing (i.e. Point Load Testing) including collection of any geotechnical related samples (including water samples) and assist with planning for any other laboratory testing required
  • Generate daily, weekly and monthly draft reports in relation to all the monitoring, in pit mapping, core logging work and for any other related geotechnical functions

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A four-year Honours degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent
  • Exposure/Experience with Geotechnical Data Collection, Radar Scanner and Prism Monitoring Systems would be an advantage
  • Light Vehicle Driver’s License

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Team player and an ability to learn in order to build up and manage systems and procedures for sound geotechnical engineering controls and practices from a low base
  • Good PC skills and computer literacy, including adequate training in standard geotechnical software packages
