Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 TradeRoots Africa-ICC Programme. Launched by the ICC Centre of Entrepreneurship at the 2025 B20 Summit in South Africa, TradeRoots Africa Ecosystem helps SMEs across the continent become export-ready under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs). By turning continental and regional trade policies into practical opportunities, TradeRoots Africa empowers African businesses to compete regionally and globally.
In collaboration with ICC national committees and African chambers, TradeRoots Africa will build a SME support system through a sequenced, practical framework around six pillars:
- Business development
- Trade knowledge and market access
- Trade finance
- Logistics, customs and air transport
- Digital trade tools
- Mentorship
Requirements
The programme seeks a balanced cohort of emerging SMEs, growth-stage businesses and established SMEs with strong potential to scale across African markets. To apply, your business must meet the following criteria:
Your business
- Majority African-owned
- Registered and legally operating in an AfCFTA State Party*
- Has been trading for at least 24 months
- Has a minimum annual turnover above USD 5,000.
- Has a product or service that is ready to export — not a business idea
Candidate Profile
- Digital Trade Readiness: Demonstrate a scalable digital presence by being discoverable through an active e-commerce platform, online marketplace, or social commerce channel.
- Has a business owner or senior manager who will personally participate in the programme
