Thembalethu Development was founded in 2002 as non-profit organisation with the aim of becoming the socio-economic development agency of choice for the mining industry, government, the private sector and international donors. They work in South Africa, Mozambique and Lesotho.

Thembalethu Development seeks to appoint a Project Coordinator to be based in Sekhukhune Distict in Limpopo.

Employment Type: Fixed-term contract

The purpose of the position will be to coordinate the work of THEMBALETHU Development as Implementing Agent in the Gauteng Province and ensure that the implementation of the Joburg Water Community Engagement and Social Development Services Project is in accordance with the THEMBALETHU Development processes and procedures, norms and standards of the project specifications.

Responsibilities:
Project Coordinator:
Assist with the development of the project Implementation plans, based on TD’s contract with Joburg Water.
Ensure that Sites are adequately capacitated so as to deliver on time within budget. Assist where necessary with advice, recommendations and referrals
Verify that procedures are followed for new site implementation and site expansion (e.g. community meetings, council resolutions, reference committees, processes for identifying participants)
Ensure reference committees are established according to policy and are functional.
Ensure that there is a process of community consultation to identify community needs
Monitor implementation at sites through visits using the site check-list tool. Provide TD with written reports on each site visit. Where short-comings are identified, meet with the LRC to agree on the necessary corrective action and confirm the agreement in writing. Follow up with a repeat visits to confirm progress within an agreed time-frame;
Ensure that Sites are aware of and adhering to processes and deadlines for submission of verified attendance registers by Administration Assistance/ Team Leader, for capturing and amending participant details, and for production and submission of all reports
Monitor that participants’ documents for processing payments are submitted to THEMBALETHU Development Head Office in time and alert the Project Leader to any issues
Assist the Project Leader in checking the Site narrative reports for accuracy and consistency. Verify all information reviewed
When participant’s targets and/or milestones are not met, discuss immediately with the Project Leader and agree in writing on a plan of corrective action;
Maintain a calendar for Local Community and provincial meetings and ensure that copies of minutes are filed and decisions are implemented
Ensure that sites are ready at all times for internal and external audits that may be commissioned by THEMBALETHU Development, Johannesburg Water or any other interested party.

Partnerships and Collaborations:
Build and maintain partnerships with local government, provincial departments responsible for local government and other stakeholders, and identify and assist to mobilise co-resourcing opportunities;
Maintain a calendar for planned CWP activities ahead of schedule and ensure all stakeholders have input and copies;

Reqiurements:
Education and qualifications:
Diploma / Degree in Social Science Studies in a relevant field such as Community Development, Project Management.
Valid driver’s license and own vehicle

Knowledge and Experience:
At least 3 years’ experience in community project management/coordination, stakeholder management;
Broad experience in community development, and implementation and evaluation of development projects;
Experience of working in partnership with communities, community structures, provincial and local government, other NGOs and NGO networks desirable;
Strong understanding of consultation principles and tools and the ability to apply these effectively; and
Willingness to undertake regular travel.
