What happens when the four humanitarian principles — humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence — come into tension with operational realities, access constraints, institutional pressures, or the expectations of different counterparts?
This thematic session invites humanitarian practitioners in Sudan to explore how humanitarian principles are understood, applied, and negotiated in operational settings.
The session will be interactive and practice-oriented, combining research insights with peer exchange, discussion, reflection, and practical exercises. Rather than approaching humanitarian principles only as abstract definitions, participants will explore what they mean for concrete negotiation decisions and interactions in the field.
