The 2020 Development Marketplace: Innovations to Address Gender-Based Violence Call for Proposals is now open.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 35% of women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual partner violence or non-partner sexual violence,
roughly 938 million women. The costs of gender-based violence (GBV) are
substantial. Violence against women and girls impedes their full
participation in society, limits access to education and economic
participation, and hinders efforts to achieve gender equality broadly.
The World Bank Group and the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI)
have partnered to address this global pandemic by launching the
Development Marketplace to Address Gender-Based Violence. The
Development Marketplace awards teams from around the world with funds to
support evidence-based research, interventions, and other activities
related to GBV prevention and response.
The Awards, first launched four years ago, honor GBV victims and survivors, and are held in memory of Hannah Graham, daughter of longtime World Bank Group employee John Graham. Listen to an interview with John Graham. The winning teams receive up to US$100,000 each.
Eligibility ofApplications
Applications for support under this award should be affiliated with a recognized, legally constituted research institution or organization with existing research or programming capacity on violence against women and girls.
A maximum of two proposals will be considered for funding per applicant.Only one award through this mechanism may be held by an applicant until the project has been completed.
Award applications that are proposing work on behalf of UN Agencies and the World Bank Group will not be considered.Previous award winners will not be considered as principal applicants.
To be eligible for funding proposals must have at least one partner from a low or middle income country, with preference given to projects led by organizations based in low or middle income countries.
The partnership must be reflected in the proposal and budget allocation. Partnerships between multiple organizations are encouraged, for example,a local NGO and an academic institution, or north-south academic partnerships or local government and an NGO or an academic institution.

How to Apply:
An expert panel will select winners engaged in research,
interventions, or other activities related to GBV prevention and
response based on overall merit, research/project design and methods,
significance, project manager/team, and ethical considerations.
All applications must be submitted via the South African Medical
Research Council (SAMRC) Awards online system, and must reach us by
midnight (South African time) on September 13, 2019.
