ARASA Annual Regional Training & Leadership Programme

The ARASA Annual Regional Training and Leadership Programme (TaLP) is hosted annually by ARASA. ARASA accept two participants from the following 18 countries in Southern and East Africa: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The Programme aims to develop a pool of change agents with expertise in advocacy for the protection and promotion of the rights to bodily autonomy and integrity as well as skills ranging from resource mobilisation, grants management and leadership to community mobilisation and addressing structural barriers to SRHR.

The Programme has trained 358 Alumni since its inception in 2008 and continues to harness the potential of collaboration & peer-to-peer learning across a broad range of movements; to work towards removing legal, policy, structural and social barriers which hinder the rights to bodily autonomy and integrity for all!

The ARASA annual Training and Leadership Programme will equip participants with;

  1. An in-depth understanding of the importance of protection of the rights to bodily autonomy and integrity and the relationship between health and human rights (focus: SRHR, including HIV prevention, sexual orientation and gender identity, SRHR in UHC and access to safe abortion);
  2. Capacity strengthening around current priorities and health trends as they relate to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universal Health Coverage (UHC), health financing and SRHR;
  3. Enhanced skills and competence to undertake community mapping, develop, plan and conduct advocacy to further responses to TB and SRHR;
  4. Guidance on how to advocate for laws and policies to advance SRHR as well as monitor implementation through meaningful engagement of national key influencers, including government officials, Parliamentarians, National Human Rights Institutions and the Media;
  5. Updates on the latest scientific advancements in SRHR
  6. Skills to design, implement and evaluate capacity strenghtening and advocacy projects; to mobilise resources for your organistion and to manage grants.

Format of the 2022 TaLP:
Applicants should be aware that the 2022 TaLP will include online components as some aspects of the training programme will be offered virtually (following the COVID-19 situations and context at the time). Online components will be designed to allow opportunities to interact, share experiences and learning.

Participants must be committed to completing both the online and face-to-face components of the 2022 Annual Training and Leadership Programme. People living with HIV, women and adolescent girls and young women, sex workers, lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), people who use drugs and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
