Job Summary

The successful candidates are expected to cover all Riders for Health Operations throughout the country.  The Technicians will be based at Riders central office in Maseru. 

The Technicians will perform routine maintenance, diagnose issues, and repair both mechanical and electrical components of motorbikes, vehicles, machinery and equipment. They will conduct electrical system diagnostics and repair electrical faults, collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficient workflow, follow safety protocols and guidelines at all time and report monthly to the Operations Manager and M&E Officer

Specific Duties

  • Conduct thorough inspections of motorbikes, vehicles, machinery or equipment to identify issues and assess their condition.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems by using diagnostic tools, reviewing manuals, and conducting tests to identify the root causes of issues.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks, including replacing parts, fixing broken components, and conducting routine service to keep motorbikes, vehicles, machinery and equipment in optimal working order.
  • Ensure that all repairs and maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including documenting work performed and parts used.
  • Conduct tests and quality checks to ensure that repaired or maintained motorbikes, vehicles, machinery and equipment meet     performance standards and specifications.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades, replacements, or improvements based on assessment findings.

Skills, qualifications and qualities

  • Formal qualification in accredited institutions offering Motor Mechanics/Electrical training (Certificate, Diploma or Degree).
  • Motor electric knowledge and motorbike repair/maintenance will be added advantage. 
  • Code B licence with at least 8 years’ experience and clean driving record
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and graphics
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Physical fitness and strengths to perform manual tasks.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Strong communication skills.

Riders for Health International (Riders) is a non-profit organization and the mission is to make the ‘last mile’ the most important mile in health care delivery: creating, showing and sharing the solutions for achieving truly equitable health care. Riders achieves this by managing vehicles on a reliable, predictable and cost-effective basis, to support the work of health partners whose remit is to reach rural communities with health care and other vital services, as well provide sample transportation services.

Riders’ facilitates acquisition of vehicles setting up systems of preventive maintenance and training of health workers to ride bikes. Riders for Health has enabled health workers to reach hitherto hard to reach areas, enabled health workers to  conduct more outreach  visits, attend  more patients by cutting down walking time and facilitated transport of patient specimen to laboratories  as well as feedback results.
