We are looking for a Technician: Industrial Electronics to service, install and commission Industrial Electronic/Power Electronic equipment toward ensuring optimal safety, reliability and availability.

Reporting to the Engineer: Reliability and working in a challenging and exciting environment, in the Electrical Systems team, you will be:

  • Maintenance, fault-finding and repair of Power Electronic equipment like Variable Speed Drives ranging from 0.75kW to 1.8MW, connected to supply voltages from 400Vac to 690Vac. Some equipment is installed in remote areas and requires skills like heavy lifting/loading and manoeuvring of power modules.
  • Fault finding and repair on complex VSD applications like Master/Follower and Crane applications.
  • Fault finding and repair on Fieldbus control systems like Device-net, Profibus and Industrial Ethernet.
  • The interpretation of electrical / electronic drawings and manuals when doing fault finding and repairs on VSD /Electrical /PLC interfaced designs.
  • Assist the Engineer/Superintendent and Design department with complex VSD interface designs been checked updated and commissioned according to the OEM requirements.
  • Fault finding and repair on Thyristor and Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) systems.
  • Good hand eye coordination with the ability to perform physical activities for prolong periods (dismantling, repair and assembly of bus bars, modules, large fuses, contactors etc).
  • Good computer skills to program, analyze and backup equipment specific software parameters.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team (standard for all job adverts)
  • T3/T4 /S4/BTech Diploma in Electrical Engineering or National “ N” Diploma (N6) in Electrical Engineering Light / Heavy current.
  • S4 with five years or T3/T4/BTech with three years or more practical and fault-finding experience related to Industrial Electronic / Variable Speed Drive/Uninterruptable Power Supply and Thyristor control systems.
  • National “N” Diploma (N6) in Electrical Engineering Light / Heavy current with Industrial Electronics, Digital Electronics and Control systems as recommended subjects. Three years or more practical and fault-finding experience related to Industrial Electronic / Variable Speed Drive / Electrical / PLC in a heavy industrial plant.
  • Experience in ABB ACS600/ACS800/ACS880 (advantageous)
  • Experience in Siemens MasterDrive / Sinamics G150 (advantageous).
  • Experience in Control Techniques Unidrive M600/ M700 and Danfoss VSD (advantageous)
  • Experience in Soft Starters Rockwell Power flex & Weg (advantageous)
  • Electrical Trade Test (advantageous)
  • Licenses/Certifications: Light motor vehicle (Code B)
