Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant positions tenable in the Ministry of Natural Resources.
DEPARTMENT: GEOSCIENCE
JOB TITLE: TECHNICAL ASSISTANT
Grade: C
Responsible To: Geoscientist
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Geoscientist, the Technical Assistant is responsible for participating in mineral exploration field work and preparing samples before analysis.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Participation in Mineral Exploration Field Work
- Labels sample bags in accordance with the sample number and sample location.
- Carries samples on his/her back from collection sites.
2. Preparation of Samples Before Analysis
- Checks that labels on sample bags are legible to avoid errors.
- Re‑labels sample bags whose labels have faded or been erased.
- Dries samples so they are in proper condition for sieving.
- Sieves samples so they are adequately prepared for analysis.
- Labels envelopes and boxes for packaging sieved samples.
- Packs sieved samples into the labelled envelopes and boxes.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of laws governing the Public Service.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Involves intensive fieldwork, including carrying samples on the back.
JOB SPECIFICATION
- COSC / LGCSE with at least a pass in Mathematics and English.
