Effective tuberculosis screening is a key step in case identification and putting patients on effective tuberculosis medication. Early identification and timely TB case notification can be ensured through effective TB screening at all entry points at health facilities and community levels. The TB screeners are expected to screen clients for TB and provide health education for clients about TB disease and the availability of services at health facilities for TB services.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform health talks on TB every morning
• Identify and screen all clients
• Separate all TB suspects from other patients in waiting rooms
• Receive TB suspects identified by doctors and nurses
• Give clear instructions to TB suspects on how to produce and store sputum
• Transport collected samples to laboratory services
• Correctly package all sputum for transport and fill out necessary forms
• Maintain the records of all TB suspected patients from community and health facilities
• Collect TB results and update the TB register and TB screening register regularly
• Perform other duties as assigned by the nurse in charge
Minimum Skills and Qualification
• COSC or LGCSE
• 1 year experience working or volunteering in a clinical setting
• Previous work in TB is an added advantage
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Conversant with computers or a basic data entry application
