Overview

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, builds global and local partnerships to enhance healthcare delivery through safe and innovative, scalable solutions. Jhpiego is a non-profit organisation operating in Lesotho since 2012.

With support from the Global Fund (TGF), Jhpiego collaborates with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to strengthen the TB nurse programme and integrate TB and HIV services. The focus is on improving early TB case detection through household screening and HIV testing among all people with TB.

Position: TB Nurse

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract

Location: Berea

Responsibilities

  • Conduct active TB case finding in the community
  • Conduct TB detection among eligible key and vulnerable populations, including contacts, inmates, healthcare workers, minors, and ex-miners
  • Monitor adherence to TB treatment among key and vulnerable populations (contacts under 15 years, miners and ex-miners with silicosis, inmates, healthcare workers, and people living with HIV)
  • Facilitate and conduct community Anti-TB treatment initiation at community level
  • Monitor patients on TB treatment at the community level until completion
  • Collaborate with community role players in scaling up TB/HIV service provision
  • Assist in investigating TB outbreaks and conduct risk assessments
  • Ensure contact identification and tracing and coordinate mass community screening
  • Coordinate distribution of communication materials to increase awareness and knowledge of TB services
  • Support TB demand creation activities through awareness campaigns in schools, churches, community meetings, and door-to-door campaigns
  • Provide HIV counselling and testing to presumptive TB cases and refer patients appropriately
  • Coordinate outreach programmes providing TB screening and HIV testing services
  • Support ART initiation for people who test positive in the community
  • Support provision of community PrEP services for clients at substantial risk of acquiring HIV
  • Facilitate referrals for all necessary health-related conditions requiring further management (ART, psychosocial support, etc.)

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum requirement: Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (degree is an added advantage)
  • At least 2 years of experience in delivering TB/HIV clinical services in Lesotho
  • Current registration with the Lesotho Nursing Council and Lesotho Nurses Association is required
  • Knowledge of Lesotho’s health systems, interventions, and priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Sesotho and English
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the management and coordination of donor-funded initiatives
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, Email)
