VACANCY
The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:
Position: Switchboard Operator
Post Number: 0285
Department: Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Responsible to: Director ICT
Location: National University of Lesotho – Roma Campus
The Switchboard Operator will be the face and voice of the NUL and as such, must be able to project a positive image of the University at all times.
1. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma in Management or equivalent.
- At least one-year experience in customer service or a related field.
2. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Supervise junior staff in the unit.
- Answer all incoming calls in a professional and courteous manner, using proper telephone etiquette.
- Route all calls to the appropriate departments or personnel promptly and efficiently.
- Take accurate messages when necessary, ensuring that all pertinent information is relayed.
- Monitor the University’s main line and direct calls as necessary.
- Adhere to all University policies and procedures.
- Update the internal directory as needed.
- Handle all client inquiries in a friendly and helpful manner.
- Remain calm and efficient during high-volume call periods.
- Incumbent will be working with a visually-impaired colleague, therefore should be willing to be of assistance whenever required.
- Assist with any other administrative tasks as requested.
- Troubleshoot any problems that may arise.
3. KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with grace under pressure.
- Ability to respond quickly and provide efficient client service in a fast[1]paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer skills, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
- Knowledge of switchboards and phone systems and basic office equipment such as printers, copiers and fax machines.
- Some technical skill required in daily self-troubleshooting before escalating to IT support (Helpdesk).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Attention to detail and teamwork.
- Proficient in both Sesotho and English languages.
4. PREFERRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Familiarity with clerical procedures.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience as a PBX operator.
REMUNERATION
The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non-Locals.
