PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To manage and coordinate ESG program and management system and provision of functions in the areas of liaison, relationship development, community engagement and support and managing stakeholder relations.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related discipline in Environmental Management, Social Sciences, Public Relations, Communication and Media studies
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in the above disciplines with an added advantage of mining experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of ESG/sustainability frameworks
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Develop and implement an efficient ESG management system including policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Develop and execute strategies to achieve SMD ESG goals and objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve ESG performance vis-à-vis frameworks and ratings systems, stay current on ESGrelated trends issues and strategies.
• Participate in cross-functional and sectional teams to set ESG goals and develop strategies to execute them.
• Develop and undertake ESG awareness, education and training for the Company.
• Support management in communicating ESG strategy and performance and incorporating ESG into culture and business strategy.
• Act as a focal point of contact with the local communities and leaders for the purpose of building effective communication, enhancing relationships and ensuring high quality community service to achieve agreed goals.
• Assist with the development of public relations program to educate the community members about the mine and to support active community participation and ownership in the sponsored CSR projects.
• Develop and carry out strategies to build positive relationships between SMD, community and other relevant stakeholders.
• Continuously provide feedback to Mine Management on community concerns and priorities with the view to revise intervention strategies where necessary.
• Analyze the community risk and ensure minimal disruption to the mine.
• Create and implement SMD community relations and CSR programs.
• Engage relevant stakeholders to achieve accepted/desired outcomes.
• Increase positive outcomes of SMD activities whilst deducing the negative aspects on the operations and the community.
• To design an internal and external communication strategy and to lead the communication strategy on a day-to-day basis.
• Organizing promotional events such as press conference, open days, radio programs, exhibitions etc.
• Ensure proactive engagement of stakeholders, and ensure an appropriate response is provided to all plausible stakeholder complaints.
• Build strong and effective relationships with local and national media.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with media representatives.
• Create platforms and opportunities to promote SMD, build positive image and good reputation of the company.
• Identify, formulate and implement sustainable and economical viable CSR projects to uplift the livelihoods of the local communities.
