Duties

Job holder conducts SD operations as a member of a tactical team of SD personnel.  This includes daily operational supervision for a seven (7)  member SD Unit (SDU).  Job holder is accountable for operational SD equipment assigned to the SDU.  Job holder directly reports to the SD Coordinator.

Job holder is also responsible for conducting SD within an assigned area.  Job holder’s primary responsibilities include:  identifying suspicious activity and/or possible surveillance and submitting information to support a preliminary analysis; engages in close observation to identify and report potential hostile surveillance directed against U.S. Government facilities, employees, family members, and residences; and initiates emergency responses as necessary to safeguard life and property.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one (1) year of military, police, or private experience in the field of security is required.  In addition to six (6) months of supervisory experience is required.
Education Requirements:

  • Completion of high school.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) English ability is required. Level III (good working knowledge) in Sesotho is also required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have initiative and resourcefulness in accomplishing tasks. Must be able to deal effectively with people of other cultures to obtain cooperation and reach common goals. Possesses good leadership and interpersonal skills. Must have valid driver license. Must be able to demonstrate judgment and basis safe driving skills in both oral and practical examination. Must be able to operate an armored vehicle and pass the defensive driving training. Good working computer skills are required. Must be able to work variable shifts, 24 hour on-call schedule, and able to travel outside capital city on an as needed basis. Proficient in first aid and use of an AED. Must physically fit and be able to endure frequent travel, long working hours, and a stressful working environment while maintaining the above standards.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Maseru, Lesotho may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.Other Information:
