Position Overview

Operation Smile is dedicated to increasing access to high quality surgical and comprehensive care services in low and middle-income countries through a holistic set of education, training, and direct patient interventions. The Global Medical Education Department drives Operation Smile’s ability to reach one million more patients in the next decade by innovating, testing and deploying transformative medical educational strategies that scale the global surgical workforce.

Surgical Educational Programs Coordinator, specific responsibilities include:

The Surgical Educational Programs Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the development and advancement of Operation Smile’s organizational surgical educational strategy, while supporting the development, provision, and monitoring of active educational surgical programs.

The Surgical Educational Programs Coordinator will serve as the focal point for program countries supporting the advancement and management of surgical educational programs. The coordinator will support foundation countries by ensuring that Operation Smile’s programs are up to date with current guidance and resources, support internal strategic initiatives, support quality monitoring and evaluation, and synthesize data and lessons learned. Key objectives for this role are outlined below.

Key Objectives

Program Management

  • Monitoring of educational surgical educational programs globally.
  • Supporting the advancement and management of visiting professorships and surgical training rotations.
  • Work in conjunction with respective technical advisors to advance build out of specialty educational resources.
  • Support the development of educational program activity work plans.
  • Support needs assessments and gathering country level information to further inform 5-year country plans.
  • Work with in-country teams to design and expand educational offerings at a hub and spoke level, specific to Operation Smile Foundation needs and working within established infrastructure (e.g. Ministry of Health)

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Assist in country teams in monitoring and meeting targeted Key Performance Indicators, output and outcome indicators devised for their surgical and allied-surgical educational programs
  • Oversee Operation Smile educational programs reporting procedures and support in-country teams in adhering to required practices.

Advocacy & Communication

  • Prepare regular program/project updates and briefing notes for management and director to keep them informed of program progress.

Requirements

Experience Required:

  • Preferred 4 years of experience working within health systems and at the population level in LMIC’s.
  • Advanced project management experience and associated skills
  • Experience with coordinating projects and supporting teams.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of foreign languages preferred. Spanish preferred.
  • Able to participate in international travel of up to 20% time.
