About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent: Security Investigations to manage the team of investigators and ensure relevant dockets are created supported by crime scene exhibits to be used for the successful prosecution of perpetrators.

Reporting to the Manager: Security Services, you will:

  • Develop a protocol for RBM Security Investigations inline with Group Compliance Investigations Standards and ensure it is align with local justice system investigations practices.

  • Establish relationship with Criminal Intelligence community and ensure are from time to time engaged and consulted to assist with resolving criminal cases affecting RBM business operations.

  • Review investigations case dockets and ensure evidence and exhibits meet requirements set for the successful prosecution outcomes.

  • Collate investigations outcomes, identify business operations areas or compliance issues requiring immediate improvement and share these observations with Manager Security Services.

  • Establish a recording system to monitoring investigations progress, quality checks, perusal and sign-off of dockets before these are handed over to the police for prosecutions.

  • Develop investigations templates for investigation planning, reporting, recording, review and outcomes management.

  • Establish RBM Investigation Committee and ensure it is sustained comprising Legal, Compliance, Security and HR/IR. Team discusses investigation outcomes and agrees on next steps.

  • Manage all investigations on all other instances as and when required and directed by the Security Manager and in accordance with Rio Tinto The Way We Work

  • Submit investigations written reports in accordance to establish procedures and protocols, submit progress reports timely for perusal by the Security Manager.

  • Develop key performance expectations for the investigations team

  • Develop individual development target as agreed with each of your direct reports

  • Manage the team in accordance with Rio Tinto guidelines and expectations

    Investigations Management Pro-Activeness

  • Providing leadership to the investigations team and play an integral part in ensuring investigations outcomes provides recommendations attached with systems improvement plans for remedial purposes.

  • Establish an environment that creates a free information gathering net-work on which the company could collate information on potential business disruptions to enable pro-active planning for emergency and business continuity.

  • Create a system that keep track and help to identify linkages between different criminal elements

  • Study crime scenes and establish criminal behavior trends, link this where possible to prior similar events for further evaluation and following up.

  • Establish an information network capable of proactively advising business and security teams of a potential security incident with probability of causing business interruptions.

About you


To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • BTECH Security Investigations

  • Other Qualifications: Diploma Forensic Investigations

  • EB License

  • Any industrial security-related training would be advantageous and could potentially increase effectiveness in this role.

  • Candidate should have 5 years’ experience of leading investigations teams at mining, vehicle manufacturing industry or petroleum industry.
