ADVERTISEMENT FOR VACANCIES IN SCHOOLS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions tenable at the Teaching Service for Government and Church-Owned Schools around Lesotho.

NOTE:

All positions are open for both qualified unemployed teachers and serving teachers who have acquired higher qualifications.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the District Education Manager (DEM), the incumbent is responsible for the provision of professional support and advice on all aspects of educational establishments. He/she will inspect all educational establishments and produce concise evaluative reports. He/she is also expected to advise schools on all educational needs in his/her district of operation.


MAIN DUTIES

  1. Advises principals and teachers on the adoption of good and new teaching styles;
  2. Advises principals and HODs on setting up departmental structures and on related issues such as materials, books, time-tables, use of laboratories, libraries, workshops, etc.;
  3. Advises principals on language policy with emphasis on concept development;
  4. Advises schools on assessment policies giving particular attention to assessment for diagnostic purposes and skills measurement;
  5. Assists schools in evaluating new management and teaching materials such as teaching programs (modules), assessment tools, improvised equipment and support materials;
  6. Assists teachers in utilization of special teaching materials such as equipment, teaching guides, etc., produced by both National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) and publishers;
  7. Undertakes follow-up activities in schools;
  8. Develops schools’ understanding of the legal and professional procedures involved in managing classrooms, departments and schools;
  9. Participates in the development of curriculum and internal examinations and in the review of Ministry’s examination and assessment policies;
  10. Extends assistance to teachers in neighbouring post primary schools in related school subjects;
  11. Undertakes school visits to deliver individual assistance in developing the institution;
  12. Inspects all educational establishments;
  13. Compiles sectional reports on inspection activity.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

A Master’s degree in English plus a minimum of five (5) years’ teaching experience in registered schools and a minimum experience of three (3) years in a management position at school;

OR

A Bachelor’s Degree in English plus PGDE plus a minimum of seven (7) years’ teaching experience in registered schools and a minimum experience of five (5) years in a management position at school.


Salary Scale: SUBJECT ADVISOR

Salary Range: M290,052.00 – M359,676.00 p.a.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven ability and experience in a management post at government or school level;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching and guidance of teachers in Science subjects;
  • Skills in developing teaching and learning materials, developing and delivering staff development programs;
  • Report writing skills;
  • Good interpersonal, communicative and coordination skills;
  • Computer literacy.
