SolidarMed is a Swiss NGO, dynamic, flexible and with a clear vision and long-term experience in Lesotho. In 2020, SolidarMed will continue to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) and DHMTs of Butha-Buthe (BB) and Mokhotlong (MKG) to improve the quality of health care and access to primary health care for the remote populations. To facilitate these aims, we are seeking talented and motivated people to fill the following positions in 2020 in our Health First Lesotho (HFL) project. The vacancies are for the coArtHA Trial – a study that seeks to identify the most effective treatment to control Arterial Hypertension in sub-Saharan Africa (in collaboration with University of Basel and MoH), Mobile Health Outreaches in collaboration with Bracelet of Hope, and SolidarMed Programme.
- Study Physician – coArtHA Trial Mokhotlong
The study physician will coordinate the coArtHA study team and support other health care workers in the hospital and district to provide good quality of care to patients. He/she will also be required to support other implementation research studies in HIV within the district.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the coArTHA study team to ensure the study is conducted according to the approved protocol;
- Be part of the HIV implementation research team in MKG to improve the quality of care to patients on treatment;
- Provide expert clinical care to patients including medical evaluation, interpret necessary results and manage patients accordingly. This includes interpreting the Chest X-ray, and performs 12-lead- resting ECG, remote echocardiography and fundoscopy;
- Develop and conduct training on Non-Communicable Diseases;
- Provide clinical mentoring and support to the health care workers in Mokhotlong;
- Liaise directly with Principal Investigators of the studies to ensure good implementation of the studies.
Skills and Required Competencies
- Current registration with Lesotho Medical Dental and Pharmacy Council.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience of clinical work in a hospital based within Lesotho health system
- Sound computer literacy, communication skills, report writing skills, ability to work under pressure, basic knowledge of research principles, sound knowledge or willingness to learn clinical good practices on conducting clinical trails
- Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English and spoken knowledge of Sesotho is advantageous
- Desirable – Work experience in general practice, HIV and TB, and Non-Communicable Diseases. Experience in clinical research is a bonus.
Qualifications – Minimum M.B.B.S. or MBChB or Equivalent
