STATISTICIAN
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Statistician in the Department of Development Planning
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Under the direct supervision of the Director Development Planning (DDP), the University Statistician provides strategic information in all matters related to institutional data in the National University of Lesotho. S/He is responsible for Management Information System (MIS) and undertakes trends and series analyses of students, staff and financial statistics in order to inform the strategic direction of the University. The Statistician should be able to provide professional assistance and statistical information in a range of format from technical reports to University Counsel to NUL Students conducting research.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics or in Economics or in information systems with specialisation in statistics is essential. A postgraduate qualification in educational statistics, educational management or information systems will be added advantage.
Experience: Work experience in in managing institutional/organisational data and conducting research is essential. A successful candidate should be able to demonstrate ability to initiate research, write up reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the Government of Lesotho and the Council on Higher Education.
Key Competencies
- Managing institutional data through the University MIS and providing templates for generating reports on students and staff trends.
- Undertaking data analytics to inform the University’s business processes both for formative monitoring of strategic progress and for summative evaluation of institutional performance.
- Providing forecasts of students and staff numbers as well as space and facilities requirements.
- Conducting special studies and compiling technical reports on unit cost, student access, quality and equity measurements, staff and student ratios and workloads, academic evaluations, as well as surveys on students and employer satisfaction, and tracer studies etc. for internal and external stakeholders.
- Compiling and publishing statistical information for regular bulletins and annual reports and specialist information for University planning.
- Coordinating with and providing statistical information to external stakeholders including to the Ministry of Education and Training and the Council on Higher Education.
- Supporting University Academic Planning, Development and Review, Institutional Research and Innovation and Strategic Direction.
