JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Senior Statistician, the incumbent will be responsible for coordination and implementation of district activities, preparation and management of the district budget, management of statistical information, supervision of district staff, and training and development of the district staff.
MAIN DUTIES
- Coordination and Implementation of the District Activities
1.1 Draws the district annual work plan to provide guidance on day-to-day operations
1.2 Attends management forums with agencies and departments in the district for planning and reporting purposes
1.3 Supervises data collection for all surveys in the designated area to ensure full coverage
1.4 Verifies accuracy of captured data to identify errors and omissions
1.5 Checks for data inconsistencies and outliers to improve data quality - Preparation and Management of the District Budget
2.1 Budgets for district activities and attends divisional budget forums
2.2 Monitors implementation of the district budget to ensure adherence to the district work plan and adjusts as necessary - Management of Statistical Information
3.1 Collects complex data to meet specific technical demands when necessary
3.2 Submits collected data to relevant divisions for analysis
3.3 Compiles district reports to support informed decision-making
3.4 Compiles a district profile to inform data users
3.5 Writes statistical reports as required - Supervision of the District Staff
4.1 Facilitates the development of individual work plans
4.2 Allocates tasks and responsibilities for operational effectiveness
4.3 Monitors individual progress to ensure alignment with the district plan
4.4 Holds meetings with staff to assess performance and address deficiencies - Training and Development of the District Staff
5.1 Conducts training needs analysis to enhance staff skills
5.2 Draws the district training plan to fill identified skills gaps
5.3 Monitors implementation of the training plan to align with departmental priorities
5.4 Orients new field staff on statistical activities
5.5 Holds workshops on data collection methods and techniques
5.6 Sensitizes stakeholders on planned activities for support and ownership
5.7 Facilitates workshops on Public Service Legal Frameworks and HR policies
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- Master’s Degree in Statistics with at least two (2) years working experience as an Assistant Statistician
OR - Honour’s Degree in Statistics with at least three (3) years working experience as an Assistant Statistician
OR - BA Degree in Statistics with at least five (5) years working experience as an Assistant Statistician
- Serving officers with qualifications in Economics and extensive experience as Assistant Statisticians will be considered
COMPETENCIES
- Computer literacy (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Proficiency in statistical packages (e.g., SPSS)
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of Public Service Legal Frameworks
- Analytical skills
- Interpersonal skills

- For property: Responsible for computer equipment and materials used in surveys and routine work
- For effect of errors: Liable for any errors as per Lesotho Bureau of Statistics Act 2001, Section 23 (1)
