Sr. Technical Advisor, Biomedical HIV Prevention

Overview

Jhpiego partners with country governments to offer person-centered HIV programs in 22 countries and has served as a global leader in translating emerging biomedical HIV prevention science into implementation at scale, including supporting 120,752 people to initiate pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and enabling 5,476,433 men to access safe and voluntary medical male circumcision to date.

Sr. Technical Advisor, Biomedical HIV Prevention works in close collaboration with our existing biomedical prevention team, the RISE Project, the MOSAIC Project, and country offices implementing PrEP programs.   This inclides supporting the biomedical prevention technical team as they prepare for introduction of new PrEP products and will provide technical support and leadership to country-based staff to strengthen PrEP implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a leadership role among country-specific technical advisors overseeing PrEP progress to target on service delivery awards
  • Contribute as a thought partner in PrEP research and product introduction
  • Coordinate inter-country technical excellence, coordination and collaboration in PrEP programs, including in cross-cutting areas like service quality, M&E, demand creation
  • Develop and/or update training materials and job aides for new PrEP products such as injectable PrEP; provide technical review of demand creation materials
  • Build capacity of PrEP staff, including ensuring technical soundness of evaluations conducted under the project; support in liaising with governments and donors at country level
  • Facilitate dissemination of lessons learned in PrEP across Jhpiego and within the HIV scientific community, including working with project teams on conferences abstracts, peer-reviewed papers, technical presentations and success stories
  • Other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Clinical degree (medicine, nursing or other health science)
  • 10+  years’ PEPFAR-funded program experience
  • Proficiency in analysis, interpretation and visualization of data
  • Demonstrated skills in training, transfer of skills and development of competencies
  • Proven ability to balance competing priorities across various planning and implementation processes within a demanding environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Team player willing to provide substantial on-site support
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different countries, cultures and contexts
  • Experience with full suite of Office 365
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Ability to work flexibly across time zones
  • Commitment to serving all potential users of PrEP with dignity, respect and empathy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in French
  • Master’s in Public Health
  • Experience in development of protocols and implementation of public health evaluations
  • Track record of scientific publications
  • Experience with key populations programs
