The Specialist: Vas Support role is based within Technology

The role
of the Specialist: Vas Support is to in this role, responsible for all support, maintenance, patching, upgrading and installation of the RHEV/RHEL and SAN Storage environments. Provisioning and maintenance of hypervisors and virtual machines will also form part of the duties. The Specialist must also have workable knowledge of a SAN storage environment used by the VMs. Mounting storage for VMs will form part of the purpose of the role. Any Mobile Telecoms (GSM/SI P) and VAS knowledge and background will be advantageous.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership

  • Provide high level support and uptime

  • Maintain systems & systems availability

  • Managed Change Management Procedures

  • Ensure system security

  • Managed system performance

  • Managed hypervisor, VM and storage provisioning


Core competencies, knowledge and experience

  • Red Hat Linux

  • RHEV & RHEL

  • Hitachi (or other) SAN Storage administration knowledge

  • GSM and Telecommunication knowledge will be BENE FICIAL

  • TCP/IP knowledge

  • Scripting/coding in any of the following will be beneficial: Bash, C, PHP, Perl etc


The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Experience

  • 4 8 year experience on Linux/Unix based systems on a high level, preferably in a Cloud/hypervisor/VM environment

  • Experience on the Microsoft Office package i.e. MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point is essential

  • Any experience on VAS Messaging platforms (Voicemail, SMS, MMS) will be beneficial.

  • GSM experience will serve as a major advantage

The base location for this role is Techno Park, Midrand
