SPECIALIST INVENTORY PLANNING SUPPORT

Objective of the job:

Mercedes-Benz is looking for an Inventory Planning Support Specialist to manage a team in order to optimise the DNI Customer Service and Inventory performance goals of Parts Division while maintaining operating costs within budgets in compliance to the Company’s Integrity Codes.

Main Tasks:

  • Inventory Planning and System Maintenance: Manage the team by ensuring the Inventory Planning system and parameters are maintained according to DNI Blue Print (policies and procedures). Monitor all SAP DNI parameters to ensure optimum system performance. This includes reviewing all parameters (e.g. replenishment projection, safety stock calculation, redeployment, forecasting, stock/non stock, Random Source Demand Logic, seasonality, vendor calendar maintenance, etc.), system problems timeously and effectively. Monitor all Inventory related Paragon and Paragon Portal parameters to ensure accurate and timeous order transmissions to suppliers and invoice transmissions to Clearing Agent.


  • Customer satisfaction:
    Manage the team to ensure that the set customer satisfaction levels (job card fill rate/service levels) are achieved according to the targets as set in your goal agreement. Ensure the Inventory Specialist in conjunction with the Planning Team conducts analysis of job card fill rates and service levels to ensure areas for improvement are identified. The impact will be improved job card fill rate and service levels to the dealer network.


  • Parts re-vendoring:
    Manage the team responsible for facilitating the re-vendoring of parts in accordance to company policies and procedures. In conjunction with the Product Managers, Inventory Planners, Procurement and Suppliers, the Inventory Specialist is to oversee the re-vendoring request and to ensure the re-vendoring process is followed through to completion.

  • Optimising Stocking Point Profiles: Manage the team in order to optimise the DNI stockholding and deployment processes in order to meet customer service levels. Liaise with RIM’s by way of continuous analysis of DNI dealer stocking profiles in order to ensure optimal stock levels by placing volumetric, part level, and fitment group constraints. This includes re-balancing stock levels by re-deploying stock to dealers with adequate warehouse capacity. Ensure all dealer buyback requests are analysed and processed in the timelines as agreed in the dealer buyback policy. Ensure the team releases all automatic, manual, special and core redeployment requests accurately and timeously, and escalates any system problems. The Administrators are to action demand errors accurately and timeously in order to aid the planners to place order quantities against accurate demand levels.

  • Managing Buy Backs and Obsolescence: Manage the team to conduct obsolescence exercises according to company policies & procedures by extracting and analysing quarterly scrapping and excess stock reports accurately and timeously, and obtain approval as per Delegation of Authority guidelines. This includes ensuring the team actions all ad hoc scrapping requests from the business accurately and timeously. The impact will be a reduction in stockholding value, days cover, and percentage of of non-stock parts as set out in your goal agreement. The Inventory Specialist is to liaise with Finance & Controlling to reduce excess stock prices in line with provision figures. The Inventory Specialist is to review the obsolescence and excess stock report with the Inventory Planning teams who in turn will forward the obsolete or excess stock report to the Parts Marketing Dept. to be reviewed and sold off at a reduced price. Generate initial buy back list as per defined parameters including elimination of parts that do not meet criteria. Facilitate a process to obtain acceptance and approval of the buy back list by DAG. Redeploy buy back stock from Dealer network to PLC. Create sales orders for buy back parts.


  • Supplier Management:
    Manage the team to ensure continuous communication & relationship-building is maintained with respective suppliers. This includes ensuring regular supplier meetings/telco’s to identify improvement processes, new initiatives, establishing good supplier – customer relations, supplier lead time management. The Inventory Planning Support Team Leader is to monitor monthly the tracking of supplier performance. The objective is to improve Supplier performance and on time delivery as monitored against the SLA/contract in line with the Company Procurement Policy. Ensure that the team addresses Supplier information updates, queries and Paragon portal issues (i.e. order downloads, invoice capturing, escalating system issues) accurately and timeously in order to achieve the set service level targets. Ensure the team completes all core return to supplier processes (i.e. redeployment to Parts Logistics Centre and invoice creation) accurately and timeously to support the business colleagues.

    Continuous improvement: Generate business intelligence reports to drive and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing cost and improving processes across SAP DNI, Paragon, BW and the Suppliers. This will include initiating and implementing efficiency ideas in line with our annual Fit for Leadership targets as set out by GLC and per your goal agreement. The main focus areas will be ideas to optimise system parameters in order to reduce inventory stock holding, inbound and outbound delivery costs, airfreight costs as well as G&A costs. ISO processes within your area need to be reviewed frequently and updated where necessary. The team is to continuously monitor the SAP DNI system parameters to achieve service level targets. This includes implementaion of ICS controls reviews quarterly as a control mechanism to ensure compliance.
