Objective of the job:

Mercedes-Benz South Africa, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler who has an international footprint, is looking for a Specialist in Inventory Planning to optimise the planning, scheduling and deployment of parts in the National, Regional and Stocking Point inventories to meet agreed customer service, and inventory performance levels in compliance to the Company’s Integrity Code and inform superior about deviations.

Main Tasks:

  • Managing Obsolescence: Determine whether a part is a Stocking part or Non-Stock part. The Inventory Specialist is to ensure the percentage of non-stock parts does not exceed the value as set out in their goal agreement. Over and above the non-stock category, the Inventory Specialist is to ensure the replenishment quantities of parts are optimal and will not be excess and contribute to our obsolescence value and days cover. The Inventory Specialist role, in conjunction with the team, is to liaise with the Inventory Support team and ensure the obsolescence exercise is conducted every quarter. The parts identified as excess or obsolete has to be forwarded to the Parts Marketing Department to be reviewed and sold off at a reduced price.

  • Demand Management: Ensure that Forecast Errors are corrected after each forecast run before replenishment decisions are actioned. The Inventory Specialist needs to validate abnormal forecasts with the dealer or customer to ensure the correct stock holding on the part and prevent excess stock or stock outs. The Inventory Specialist is to continuously liaise with local and overseas suppliers to ensure orders are delivered on time and expedite orders where necessary to prevent stock outs. Stocking profiles of parts needs to be reviewed after each run and actioned timeously i.e. prior to replenishment runs. The brand technical colleagues to be consulted if necessary to determine the criticality of the parts that needs to be stocked. The Inventory Specialist is to ensure attendance at the Product Planning Meetings and to collaborate with the brand colleagues to ensure a smooth introduction of new models.


  • Customer satisfaction:
    Ensure that the set customer satisfaction level, (job card fill rate/service levels) are achieved according to the targets as set in your goal agreement. Upon review of the non-performing dealers, the Inventory Specialist is to perform a deep dive on the dealer and review their stock profile, and ascertain the reasons for the dealers’ poor performance. The Inventory Specialist is to then present his/her findings to the Inventory Planning Manager and to define a plan of action with defined timelines to turn around the dealer performance.


  • Replenishment & Redeployment:
    Ensure that the national, regional and Stocking Point stockholding is of a sufficient level to sustain the target service level. Whilst emphasis is placed on ensuring adequate stock coverage, continuous focus needs to be placed on the national stock value and the defined target for the year based on your goal agreement. Redeployments to be actioned timeously to prevent requests for emergency deliveries thus reducing the total logistics costs – reduced logistics target to be communicated each year in your goal agreement.


  • Continuous improvement:
    Responsible for continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing cost and improving processes. This will include initiating and implementing efficiency ideas in line with our annual Fit for Leadership targets. The main focus area for Inventory will be ideas to reduce inventory stock holding, inbound and outbound delivery costs, airfreight costs as well as G&A costs. ISO processes within your area need to be reviewed frequently and updated where necessary. The Inventory Specialist is to continuously monitor the stock holding of high ranked parts to ensure adequate cover which will enable our Parts Marketing colleagues to achieve their revenue targets.


  • Self-development.
    Taking personal responsibility for learning and development through a process of assessment, reflection and actioning. This can include both on and/or off the job training. This also includes the sharing of learnings with team. The Inventory Specialist is to also participate, lead or drive adhoc projects that will contribute positively to revenue and efficiencies. The Inventory Specialist is to ensure all development plans are recorded on Star Track and followed through.

Experience:

3-5 years’ experience in a specialised field.

Qualifications:

Matric/Grade 12 + Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics or Engineering
