  • To manage Employment Relations (ER) for the University of Johannesburg in partnership with Employment Relations: Director and relevant stskeholders.
  • To provide expert advice and guidance on ER matters to Line Management, HR staff, employees and other UJ stakeholders in the application of Employment Relations (ER) policies and procedures in line with relevant employment relations.
  • To investigate and evaluate internal Employment Relations related matters and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • To present the University in dispute resolution processes, including arbitration proceedings.
  • Project Management.
  • Training and Development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Honours qualification in HR/ER with specialisation in labour law or relevant equivalent.
  • 10 Years HR/ ER experience.
  • 3 Years representing employer at the CCMA.
  • 5 Years negotiations with unions.

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Assist with the implementation of the ER strategy
  • Serve as an Employment Relations expert, providing guidance and conducting comprehensive investigations.
  • Dispute resolution and collective bargaining processes.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and review relevant ER policies, procedures and systems (e.g discipline and grievance)
  • Identify and implement positive employment relations programmes, in consultation with the Direcor: ER
  • Assist the Director: ER with formal consultative structures and negotiation processes as identified.
  • Provide ER training
  • Facilitate implementation of ER processes
  • Advise Line Managers
  • Advise on trends relating to changes or amendments in labour legislation and ensure a link to UJ processes.
  • Represent UJ in external dispute resolution arbitration proceedings.

Recommendations:

  • A Postgraduate qualification in Labour Law.
  • Experience in Higher Education environment desired.
