What you can expect

As part of the MAA Responsible Care and Quality organisation, this position is required to provide professional guidance (legal and other applicable EHSQ standards) to BASF sites to ensure compliance with all legislative requirements and BASF Responsible Care (RC) requirements and guidelines according to Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and the relevant Quality (ISO) standards. Core responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide professional guidance to all ECR sites (PE, Bloem, Durban, Cape Town, Nelspruit, Midrand) to ensure compliance with all applicable Responsible Care & Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Drive legal compliance and collaborate with teams for preparation of internal and external audits. Regularly check and report implementation of legal requirements such as OHS Act
  • Work fluidly in a highly cross-functional environment involving customer sites, sales management, supply chain and warehouse teams and so forth
  • Identify problems or non-compliance issues. Knows, understands and identifies all areas of expertise needed to resolve problems and then coordinates a team of those with needed expertise
  • Review and analyze risk assessments, proposing counter-measures and monitor implementation
  • Support the proper recording, incident & annual reporting & investigation of all accidents & incidents on site/s
  • Provide guidance and management for contractor management
  • Provide annual mandatory training as per the BASF and legislative training requirements
  • Advise line management on the outcomes of risk assessments and the subsequent actions deriving from the HIRA
  • Drive and maintain EHS site action tracker and follow up on all items
  • Provides advanced professional knowledge and expertise to develop and support staff members concerning Environmental Health and Safety programs to the sites
  • Support the conducting of Threat/Vulnerability Assessments and Risk Analysis for security topics. This includes conducting periodic audits of security policies and procedures
  • Investigating of all safety and security related complaints
  • Reviewing and/or maintaining written security management plans for all modes of operation
  • Interfaces with various contractor personnel to ensure security is maintained and repaired in compliance with agreed SLA’s

What we expect

  • Tertiary qualification in any EHS field, with a minimum of 4 – 8 years experience in an EHS position
  • Formal qualification in SHEQ systems (SAMTRAC, TQM, etc.) will be advantageous
  • Fluent in English and fully computer literate
  • Excellent communication skills to align with customers, service providers, experts and relevant fuctions
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle with willingness and ability to travel
