KARABO EA BOPHELO (KB) at Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (KB) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free pediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions. Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) is a five-year USAID-funded activity to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Lesotho. This position is based in  all ten districts of Lesotho.

KARABO EA BOPHELO – BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified candidates to fill in the following positions on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Position: Social Worker X20

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Social Workers will directly report to the Technical Specialist. They will be responsible for effective and efficient coordination of case management processes for children living with HIV (CLHIV) in Health facilities. They will facilitate referrals to service providers between facilities and community depending on need. The social Worker will contribute to the monitoring and reporting through administering case management tools to document CLHIV cases and referrals. The position is based in all 10 districts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide basic information to health facility clients on KB programmes offered by consortium partners, so that they may be enrolled with their consent.
  • Acts as entry point and KB contact person in health facilities and community councils assigned to.
  • Record and monitor  Viral Load and MMD for children under the age of 18, to ensure that appropriate community-based support can be provided to those experiencing treatment challenges.
  • Track referrals from health facilities to community services and vice versa and ensure that referred clients get to the expected service points and make follow ups.
  • Participate in case conferencing of clients.
  • Understand and provide proper guidance on continuum of prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
  • Mobilize health campaigns and dialogues on HTS for vulnerable children and their households.
  • Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on the services provided.
  • Report referral processes and challenges to both the DHMT and KB management.
  • Perform any other duties assigned

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Degree in Social Work
  • 2 years relevant social work experience with either international development programs, or the public sector such as the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social Development.
  • Experience in HIV programming will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of community and health facility interventions, specifically case management, is critical. 
  • Strong competence in collaboration, integration, capacity building, facilitation, and research 
  • Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, knowledge-sharing networks
