South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) is a non-governmental organisation whose major objectives are the prevention and treatment of Alcohol and Drug Dependence. The first of these objectives is mainly achieved through the provision of treatment services for chemically dependent people and their families (Chemical dependence is an umbrella term used to describe both alcoholism and drug dependence).

SANCA seeks to appoint a Social Worker to be based in Newcastle – Ladysmith Office .

PURPOSE:
Provide Community based substance use disorder treatment services to individuals, families and communities in accordance with service level agreement, goals and objectives, including but not limited to policies, legislation and National Drug Master plan as well as delivery of services to the organization.

Minimum required competencies, knowledge and skills for the post are:
A four year (BA) Social Work Degree
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of substance use disorders
Valid registration with the SA Council for Social Service Professions
Form 29 enquiry report and/or recent SAPS clearance certificate
Experience in the field of substance use disorders will be an advantage
Maintain the therapeutic and prevention programs according to the expected norms and standards as well as expected objectives.
Required to implement all prevention, community development and treatment programs.
Institute and provide adequate professional supervision for Social Auxiliary Workers and student Social Workers.
Ability to work independently and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Be able to co-ordinate and be accountable for the daily operations of the office
Must have strong administrative and communication skills
Be fluent in English and Isizulu.
Valid code 08 driver’s license (essential)
Computer literate on MS Office
Due to the nature of work, preference will be given to a person of sober habits.
