The Justice Desk is a Human Rights non-profit organisation operating in South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. We were established in 2013, with the main goal of Promoting the Power of Everyday Activism. In order to do this, we empower ordinary people to understand and defend their Human Rights – so that they can transform society and create a more just and equal world! We also work alongside civil society, NGOs, businesses, and governments across the globe to challenge and eliminate the root causes of injustice.

The Justice Desk seeks to appoint a fulltime social worker in their Cape Town offices.

They are looking for a compassionate social worker to help serve the communities that we have a presence in by assisting our project beneficiaries that are affected by issues such as neglect, child abuse, GBV, domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse. Cases will be handled by phone or in person. You will be in charge of assessing clients and gathering relevant information about their cases, providing crisis intervention, and contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services.

You will also work with the children and families in four Justice Desk projects:
The Mbokodo Club project works with girl survivors of rape and GBV from marginalized communities.
The Ntsika Project works with young boys from marginalized communities who are trying to end GBV.
The Youth Ambassadors Project works with young people who are advocating for children’s rights in various schools.
The Umoya Project works with disabled, elderly and abandoned people.
Requirements:
Must be able to speak English, isiXhosa AND Afrikaans
Must have a driver’s license
Must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in social work, and additional preference will be given to those will additional qualifications in social development, politics, English, sociology or an equivalent.
Must have experience working with children.
Must have previous volunteering experience.
Must have high quality reading, writing and public speaking skills.
Must be able to work under high pressure, adapt, and think out of the box.
Must be a team player.
Must have a valid police clearance.
Responsibilities:
Providing mental health counseling to individuals, groups or families.
Conducting initial assessments of clients’ situation to determine needs and goals.
Providing crisis intervention as needed.
Referring individuals to appropriate treatment centers, other organisations, as well as building and maintaining a referral database.
Ensuring that all case files, and other records, strictly comply with policies, regulations, and procedures.
Coordinating intervention planning and maintaining ongoing contact with project beneficiaries.
Creating and presenting various talks and trainings on child safeguarding, GBV and other key topics.
Actively participating in ongoing training as needed in order to meet all certification standards and credentialing policies.
Educational material development.
Monitoring and evaluation of work.
Recruiting, mentoring and managing core volunteers.
And other general duties at The Justice Desk.
