Baphumelele Child & Youth Care Centre is an effective Not for Profit company based in Khayelitsha. It provides a residential care for orphans and vulnerable children, and is looking for a Social Worker, who will be responsible for ensuring that social work services are provided through the promotion of social change, empowerment and liberation of children and youth within a therapeutic setting and to enhance the social well being of the service recipients.

Baphumelele Child & Youth Care Centre  seeks to appoint a Social Worker to be based in Cape Town.

Responsibilities:
To provide support and manage the welfare of vulnerable children and youth. This will include working with children with a range of issues, such as learning disabilities, drug or alcohol dependency, physically and emotionally abused. And, one may be involved in providing physical care, offering individual/group counselling, leading group therapy sessions or teaching.
·To ensure that a social work service with regards to the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable children, groups, families through the relevant programs is rendered. Attend to any other matters in a residential care that could result in, or stem from, social instability in any form.
·Mentor and advice Social auxiliary workers, Social work students, Control Care-workers, Care-work Team leaders, Care – workers, and Volunteers and Interns to ensure an effective social work service.
·To ensure through assisting in up-skilling or training the Child and Youth Care Work Department, that the Child and Youth Care Centre provides and maintains the highest levels of care and service in accordance with the organization’s vision, mission, policies and procedures and also other Service level agreements that the organization is contracted with.
The Mentor will work collaboratively with Child Care Dept. exploring underlying issues to empower them to consider change. Develops and implement a plan of care in collaboration with Child Care Dept. and other Social work team members.
Keep up to date with new developments in the social work field
Requirements:
Degree in social work and current registration with SACSSP
Experience in CYCC will be an advantage
Knowledge and experience of the principles and practices of social work profession
Ability to write reports, program plans, care plans & IDPs and donor/sponsor correspondence
Valid driver’s license
Interest and passion to work with orphans and vulnerable children
Understanding of Child & Youth Care Centre’s programs, statutory duties, therapeutic work, and other services as required by the  Children’s Act 38 of 2005 (Norms & Standards and Child Protection)
Willingness to learn, be Flexible and work under pressure and Positive attitude and willingness to get involved in a non-profit work environment
Computer skills – Microsoft office (Outlook / Word / Excel and PowerPoint)
Ability to communicate fluently in isiXhosa and English
