Jo’burg Child Welfare (JCW) is a non-profit organisation (NPO) founded in 1909. We provide a range of direct services to abused, abandoned, neglected, orphaned and vulnerable children.
Jo’burg Child Welfare seeks to appoint a competent Social work manager, who will ensure services delivered are consistent with the vision, mission and core values of Jo’burg Child Welfare and support the Assistant Director in departmental planning and monitoring progress.  The Manager will be working to enhance the department’s productivity and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.

JO’BURG CHILD WELFARE seeks to appoint a Social Work Manager- Foster Care to be based in Gauteng.

The purpose of the job is to directly control and manage the functions of the foster care department and to advise the Assistant Director of the needs and development of the department in accordance with the agency’s overall objectives and goals.

The Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor of Social Work Degree
Masters/MA in Social Services will be an added advantage
Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Profession
Valid Drivers’ Licence
Experience:
Proven  5-10 years’ experience as a Supervisor or Senior Social worker
Experience in management and leadership, and administration,
The understanding and ability to provide complex social work services towards protecting people who are vulnerable, at-risk and unable to protect themselves.
The ability and experience in compiling complex reports.
Responsibilities:
Control and supervise Departmental staff which includes social work supervisors, social workers, typists and social auxiliary worker.
Conduct interviews for the purpose of selecting personnel to fill vacancies in the department with the assistance of supervisors. Consult Assistant Director where necessary.
Demarcate areas and distribute caseloads in conjunction with the social work supervisors.
Keep staff informed of new developments in and outside JCW as well as changes in procedures for the more effective carrying out of work. Exchange ideas with staff about problems encountered in the work situation, possible solutions thereto and any other relevant matters at monthly staff meetings.
Delegate authority as is appropriate and necessary, from time to time, while at the same time, developing and implementing methods of holding such individuals accountable for their effectiveness.
Maintain and raise standards of professional social work by means of random spot checks and inspection of work in order to assess and make improvements to effectiveness and quality of service delivery.
Attend monthly meetings of the Managers of the Agency where the functioning and needs of the section are discussed.
In co-operation with the Finance Department, co-ordinate and promote the functioning of the Agency’s Foster Care sponsorship projects.
Draft the annual provisional budget for the Department for submission to the  Assistant Director
Control staffs’ leave by countersigning all leave applications.
Collect all monthly statistical forms from supervisors, and submit these to the relevant section by the set return date.
Skills and knowledge required:
Excellent report writing and interviewing skills.
In-depth knowledge of the Children’s Act and other relevant legislations.
Good communication and administrative skills
Excellent supervisory, planning, organization, problem-solving, decision-making and inter-personal and leadership skills.
Ability to use authority in a respectful manner.
Ability to work positively within a multi-disciplinary Child Welfare team.
Time management and ability to function under pressure.
Outstanding communication and public speaking skills.
Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
Aptitude in problem-solving.
Knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards.
Proficient in MS Office.
