JOB PURPOSE
To implement, monitor, and report on Soul City’s Social Media Strategy.
To assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Soul City Institute social media interventions and to further develop SM strategy as needed.
To assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of social media advocacy campaigns and activities.
To assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of SCI’s social media corporate positioning in accordance with the strategic objectives as an intersectional feminist institute for social justice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Implementation and monitoring of Soul City’s Social Media Strategy:
Implement and continue to develop an effective, innovative SCI Media Strategy for all SCI’s programmes, events, campaigns, and media products.
Contribute to the development and production of all SCI’s media offerings including the intersectional feminist research process that informs all of these offerings.
Manage relationships with stakeholders and social media/media partners for all of Soul City’s media products
Develop, implement, monitor monthly plans for SCI’s programmes, events, campaigns and media products.
Social Media Management:
Produce well researched social media messaging SCI campaigns, media productions and advocacy areas.
Develop social media campaigns based on SCI’s strategic areas and the latest developments in these areas.
Establish and expand Soul City’s presence on social media via existing presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and by exploring other social media avenues.    ‘
Build on social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification for an intersectional feminist institute.
Monitor, generate, edit, publish and share daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.
Moderate all user-generated content in line with the moderation policy for each community and encourage online dialogue on different topics affecting young women and girls
Manage and build social network communities
Assist with the preparation and monitoring of project plans for all social media interventions including considering hosting live chats on Facebook.
Support in ensuring SCI website is updated and supports and strengthens social media messaging.
Prepare monthly and quarterly social media impact reports on all social media campaigns including social media and online metrics.
Advocacy Management:
Support Soul City Institute’s overall feminist advocacy strategy online
Develop and conceptualise media advocacy campaigns objectives of funded programmes including their integration into any accompanying television series.
Provide support for online dialogues and assist the implementation thereof;
Support and assist in research projects to analyse policy and legislation related to Soul City advocacy areas and campaigns.
Assist in the development and management of the stakeholder database and credible online following in line with mandate as intersectional feminist institute.
Corporate Brand Positioning:
Oversee SCI brand positioning in all online and social media communications.
Contribute Social Media Reach Visibility & Impact report to SCI annual report
Update the Soul City Institute webpage;
Identify opportunities that will enhance brand building in line with the strategy.
Cultivate key journalists and intersectional feminist influencers to consistently profile the SCI message, particularly to frame key issues in a manner that shifts the debate to one that is line with the SCI approach to Social Justice;
HR Management & Capacity Building:
Participate in the Strategic Integration unit team and contribute to the achievement of the team objectives
Provide support for training for all Soul City staff in social media training (print and electronic) and advocacy platforms to ensure that the SCI message is consistent and clearly articulated.
Financial Management/Governance
Manage all media and advocacy development and production budgets; where appropriate.
Manage the advocacy, marketing and public affairs budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
A degree or an equivalent qualification in journalism, communication and/or media-related studies
At least 3 years’ experience in advocacy, communications and social justice, particularly in gender equality, feminism and women’s empowerment
At least 3 years’ proven experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc), tools (Hootsuite, Tweet Deck, etc), and knowledge of current trends in social media are essential.
Experience working with NGOs and community based organisations on advocacy issues.
Experience in working with government and parliamentary processes, legislators and other policy makers.
Experience in media production would be an added advantage.
Experience in writing reports

COMPETENCIES:
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of social media platforms & tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Mail Chimp, Instagram, YouTube, Hootsuite, etc
Strong data analytics skills are required
Excellent proficiency in MS Office – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Able to network effectively and represent Soul City Institute at public forums.
Able to co-ordinate production and flighting of media communication campaigns.
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
Communication skills in other South African languages would be an added advantage.
Excellent report writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Good team player.
Self-motivated, a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision.
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Able to use own initiative and take ownership of his/her tasks.
Able to analyse and evaluate data and information.
Valid Driver License
Own transport
