Social Media and Communications Officer

Remote, £28,000 per year, full-time, permanent
We are open to applicants who wish to work 4 or 5 days a week, and working days can be arranged flexibly.

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you keen to develop your social media and communications skills for the benefit of disadvantaged children?

38% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard. Chapter One is a fast-growing charity, with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills they need to thrive.

Many children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practise: we work to ensure that every child has 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most. Chapter One’s unique online reading volunteers support programme pairs struggling 5 to 7 year olds in over 10 areas of the UK with over 2,500 volunteers who are recruited from a range of local and national businesses.

This new role, reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and grow their social media and communications skills in a dynamic charity. You will be a confident communicator able to create tailored, compelling content and campaigns. You’ll lead on the creation, posting and scheduling of social media posts on LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram. You’ll be actively involved in creating content for our newsletters and website, in particular partner spotlights and volunteer interviews. You’ll have excellent design and written communication skills, with an ability to adapt your tone and voice to engage specific audiences, whist remaining true to Chapter One’s messaging and brand. You’ll also have a chance to get involved in an array of exciting events and campaigns.

Please read the full job description for details of the responsibilities of the role, and our employee recruitment pack to learn more about Chapter One. This is a fully remote position and is ideal for someone home-based with the ability to travel to occasional meetings. We are open to applicants who wish to work 4 or 5 days a week, and working days can be arranged flexibly.

As a charity that values and celebrates people’s diversity and champions opportunities for all young people, we are keen to receive applications from people who have experienced disadvantage and from those who are from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities who are currently underrepresented in the organisation. We believe that a diverse organisation is one that is more innovative, more creative and gets better results.
