Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Cape Branch (MDFC) is a NGO providing services and support to persons young and old affected by MD and neuromuscular disorders.

Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Cape Branch seeks to appoint a Social Auxilary Worker to be based in Cape Town.

Description
Assists the work of social services professionals by providing services and support to individuals, families and communities affected by Muscular Dystrophy and neuromuscular disorders.

Tasks:
Collecting information relevant to clients’ needs and assessing their relevant skills, strengths and deficits.
Assisting clients to identify options and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance.
Doing intake of new members and doing follow ups with new and existing members telephonically and by way of home visits.
Assisting clients to identify and access community resources including legal, medical and financial assistance housing, employment, transportation, assistance with moves, day care and other referral services.
Assisting with the facilitation of Adult and Parent Support Groups.
Conducting the community awareness raising programmes.
Assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of interventions and programs by monitoring and reporting on clients’ progress.
Maintaining contact with other social service agencies, schools and health care providers (RXH, TBH, GSH, other) involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall situation and progress.
Administrative support to the Social Work Team.
Facilitation of Children Support Groups.
Accumulation of weekly and monthly stats.
Any additional work as required.
Qualification/Experience:
The Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Social Auxiliary Work (1 year) or a two- or three-year diploma in Social Work
At least 5 years relevant experience post qualification.
Occupation Regulation
The South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) is the statutory body that regulates the social service professions in South Africa. Registration with SACSSP is a prerequisite for using the designation Social Auxiliary Worker. In order to retain your registration as a Social Auxiliary Worker you have to pay the annual registration fee to the SACSSP. The Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements of the Council should also be complied with.
