Skateistan South Africa seeks to appoint a Skate and Create Educator to be based in Johannesburg.

Overall purpose of job As a Skateistan Educator, you will be responsible for ensuring the children have the best experience possible, by developing and implementing the Skate and Create curriculum with the direct supervision of the Programs Officer. A Skateistan Educator is enthusiastic, imaginative and energetic, with a passion for helping children to reach their full potential. Your primary focus will be on facilitating classes, as well as assisting in any core program as needed – Homework Help, Youth Leadership, Dropping In and Outreach. You will also be responsible for developing Skate and Create lesson plans, and running Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning(MEL) activities within programs.

Key responsibilities:
Create a safe, stimulating and child friendly environment that facilitates learning
Develop and implement Skateistan South Africa’s Create curriculum and lesson plans
Provide feedback on curriculum to the Programs Officer through weekly reports
Preparation of teaching/class curriculum based upon Skateistan’s Educational Guidelines and instructions from the Programs Officer
Instruct students according to a weekly Lesson Plan
Develop and deliver regular training with staff on lesson plan creation and facilitation skills
Maintain and monitor classroom equipment and supplies

o Take inventory weekly and create list of supplies needed for the following week
o Check classroom equipment for damage and usability

Report any incidents regarding safety, attendance, or student behavior to Programs officer/General Manager
Provide volunteers with guidance and assistance as needed
Complete a weekly report each week on programs activities including observations of students
Assist with MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) activities as needed:
Enter and update individual student records into salesforce
File and update paper records and scan onto Google Drive
Create, print and laminate staff and student ID cards
Maintain the student library and oversee student checkout of books
Assist with translations as needed
Assist with outreach curriculum
Attend weekly training sessions
Provide monthly students testimonies
Other responsibilities as required

Skills required:

Minimum professional and academic qualifications

Degree in the field of education or related program; or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated passion for positive youth development

Minimum years of experience

At least 2 years’ experience in teaching/training field

Competencies and Knowledge

Interest in early childhood development
Strong program development skills
Planning capabilities and the ability to work with strict deadlines
Written and spoken English is preferred
Good communication skills
Previous experience working with youth
Knowledge of Skateistan’s programming
Organization skills
Enthusiasm for sports and games
