Site Laboratory Manager at SMEC – Lesotho

The company is currently seeking a talented Site Laboratory Manager to join the Construction and Pavements team in Durban for the Mpiti to Sehlabathebe Road(91km) Project in Lesotho.

The position will be based at the Mpiti to Sehlabathebe Road, which starts in the southewest part of Lesotho, near Qacha’s Nek and runs along the south-eastern boundary with South Africa, ending at the Sehlabathebe National Park. The project entails the upgrading from gravel to asphalt and is scheduled to run for a 36 month contract period, which may be extended.

Key Responsibilities:
* With a minimum of 3 years experience in an engineering materials laboratory, the Site Laboratory Manager will be responsible for:
• Carrying out processes and quality control testing of all works submitted by the contractor in the request books.
• Control the site laboratory to ensure timeous and accurate test results.
• Managing site laboratory personnel, controlling overtime and ensuring that attalendance is monitored and recorded and timesheets are submitted to the ER.

Key Qualifications, Skills and Experience required.

• National Diploma in Civil Engineering or better qualification.
• Minimum of. 3 years experience in an engineering materials laboratory
• Knowledge of all the relevant laboratory standards and documentation
• Experience in Government standards, codes, and documentation.
• Understanding of company policies and procedures that are applicable to the work.
• Understanding of the COLTO Standardised Specifications.
• Time Management
• Communication
• Interpersonal Skills
• Computer literacy
• Client Focused
• Valid driver’s license.
