PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Sappi Saiccor seeks to employ an incumbent to ensure that the section complies with ISO 9002, ISO 14001 systems (including OHS Act and Behaviour based Safety), and to co-ordinate the training and various activities of these systems within the section
REPORTING TO the Environmentalist
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Co-ordinate job observations create awareness, record keeping, document control and training
- Implement Behavior Based Safety
- Train the safety representatives to improve their safety inspections and reporting
- Complete incident investigations and assist with route cause analysis
- Carries out informal safety audits of the plant and personnel
- Monitor critical safety jobs on shutdowns and ensures that the correct isolation procedures have been implemented
- Ensure that the plant adheres to the correct procedures for issuing General Work Permits, and monitors compliance to the procedures
- SAP schedule for shift sup to audit work permits and perform random GWP compliance audits
- Co-ordinate the activities of the Safety Reps. and ensures that audits are correctly carried out, and suitable corrective action taken
- Responsible for the monitoring and development of good occupational health practices
- Liaise with the medical department to resolve occupational health problems in the section
- Ensure that the plant complies with legislation and ensures continuous improvement
- Monitor progress towards achieving the defined objectives and targets in the section
- Assist with updating work instructions and procedures according to ISO 14001, ISO 9002 and requirements and performs ISO 14001 audits
- Perform environmental inspections in and around the plants
- Conduct informal checks on procedures, work instructions, environmental registers and policies to ensure that the system is fully implemented
- Investigate internal environmental complaints and suggests corrective actions
- Ensure close out of findings and NCR’s
- Conduct inspections to ensure that process standards, work instructions, procedures and quality policies are implemented
- Carry out plant specific induction, orientation and SHEQ awareness
- Compiles a monthly SHEQ report
- Co-ordinate plant surveys e.g. lighting, noise, asbestos, waste handling etc.
- Follow up and close out of Plant Modifications and HAZOP’s
- Facilitate SHEQ and Toolbox meetings when required
- Ensure implementation of corrective/preventive measures
- Ensure timeous close out of SAP deviations
- Facilitate Root Cause Analysis & Risk Assessment
- Participate in Hazop and Swifts for plant modifications
- Attend various MDT’s as well as Operations Manager’s meetings
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- Minimum NQF 6 in a SHEQ qualification in either Safety / Risk Management
- 3 Years Relevant Experience in Manufacturing Environment
- Knowledge of ISO Systems
- SAP Literacy (Advantageous)
